So you believe we should outlaw gambling in Vegas?

People do chose to give away healthy organs. Its not the sick that we are discussing here, its the healthy with a commodity to sell.

its people who are pressure to under go risky procedures. same as we now have poor people being paid to take part in dangerous experiements/studies becuase they are desperate. its not right.
and its not right that poor people could end up not getting organs because of this.

Why would they not get organs any less then they do now? If organs could be sold on the open market then the price would go down, not up. Its the concept, I know foreign to liberals, of supply and demand. If the supply rises then the price goes down. More poor people would be able to receive transplants than do so now.
Why are you trying to keep the price from falling and thereby really helping the poor?

This is a great thread with good discussion on this subject, but I think that a person makes a choice to sell a kidney that should be their right. Hell it is legal for wholesale abortions so why not organs?

It's my body. If it's legal for me to donate an organ, why can't I sell that same organ? However no one should be able to sell the organ(s) of another person, even a relative.

The only issue I have with your statement is the no one being able to sell the organ of another person. What if I started a business, a brokerage if you will, of buying organs from sellers and then reselling them to hospitals?
BTW, one of my brothers in law was the West Coast Sales Manager for Jaguar Motor Cars. I visited him and he lent me a XJ12 Jaguar Convertible to drive around in. I went up the PCH in Malibu and thought I was hot stuff in my $75,000.00 car until I noticed I had the lowest priced car on the road! I have never seen so many Ferraris, Rolls Royces and Mercedes in my life. I think even the gardeners were driving Bentleys (used ones of course)!!

They wouldn’t be forced to do anything, it would be voluntary. Is it not equally immoral to deprive them of that option? Why should they not be allowed to make extra money that would improve their lives?
I shouldn’t poor person be compensated for his kidney? It seems to me the poor would greatly benefit under this arrangement.

This is just what should be prevented. Otherwise you have "organ thieves" ripping out kidneys just like you have copper thieves stealing copper now.

Your trip up PCH must have been in the summer, when the Beverly Hills crowd rents all the houses in Malibu Colony. Real Malibu residents drive something a little more sensible, like a BMW 7, or the BMW M5.
P.S. We don't have "gardeners" in Malibu. We have "Landscape Architects".
