Guns don't kill people, People kill people. I am not sure about you but if someone was attacking me with a gun or a spoon I think I know which I would go for. The problem that you have is that guns have become part of the culture. I personally can not see why you need to have the right to own a gun. Who wants the right to be able to kill someone. You can go on about protecting your home etc but the truth is that the sort of person that is going to break into your home is more likely to be carrying a gun if they believe that the owner is likely to also have a gun. If guns were banned and a person breaking into a home that he can be pretty sure do not have a gun, I would think that they would be happy to rob you blind but without the need to fire a shot. You may not be happy to lose your material possessions, but compared to losing your life, they do not mean that much.

Considering the history involved, I think it will be a long time before the public are going to be willing to give up this 'right'. Surely though it has to be the direction you would want to go in. First the social problems need to be addressed, where a system is in place to slowly phase out the causes of gun crime.

The figures that are available for the amount of violent crime and number of people in jail is shocking! There are more people in jail proportionate to the populus than any other country in the world. (please read that fact again) Yet the government and most of the public believe they live in the land of the free. LMFAO. (wake up folks, reality is calling)

I don't agree with banning hand guns. They are a quick and easy way of defending ourselves. I do agree that we may need some more control, but banning? No.
And your a Communist? Sometime you'll have to debate me on the "Head to head Debate" area. I don't personally agree with communists. In fact, if you support the Chinese, I've got a thread there on Tibet's freedom.

Were criminals are concerned, I still pretty mich hold the same belief. Fact is, 10 years ago I might have even agreed with post 21. But since Bush... I have to side with the founders. I have every intention of buying a couple. Right now I'm in better safe than sorry mode.

Baning guns DOES work. It allowed me, and my best friend, to implement some rather unpopular policies AFTER we baned guns. For us it worked rather well.

However, this topic seems to get stuck on an all or nothing line of thinking. Not all guns are necessary in all areas to defend ourselves from our enemies, foreign or domestic. A balance must be sought until which time the social issues surrounding gun crime can be solved. IMHO
