Cool pic. Interesting to note, I think, that the concept is not a new one. The AK9 actually follows on the heels of the AS Val and Vikr using highly pressurized 9x39mm round(SP-5). There is a buffet of high pressure SP rounds in 9x19, 9x21 and 9x31mms. for pistol and smg use, as well.

Thanks, Captain Capslock. You can also command a distant battlefield from a 'well put together shooting position' with something more suited for sniping...if only there were some sort of rifle suitable for a sniper.

Spoken like someone who's never seen what virtually any bullet does to flesh and bone. A three round burst from an M16 is more than adequate to put down an unarmored target, and it's also more than enough to but an armored target on his ass.

Every gun has a situation it is better suited for than another. An M14 is single-shot for a reason. It's designed to shoot targets that are further away than an M16.

Which is totally why the US Army, composed of lots of people who are more knowledgeable of weapons and their effective usage than you are, decided to make the M16 standard issue?

Anyhoo, on the actual topic. I marvel that the Type 56 got any votes at all. A Chinese knockoff of the most widely mass-produced weapon on earth? Yeah, I'll take my name-brand AK-47. Kicks like a mule and a shorter than average effective range for an assault rifle, but a good caliber for ensuring the most bang per-shot and the hardiness to see me through a few world wars.
