Default Liberals own Guns?

I recently wrote a letter to my representitive, Gabrielle Giffords, D, to voice my concern about HR1022. I wanted to know her position. This is the E-mail I received from her (office):

March 13, 2007

Dear Mr. XXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting me about your concerns regarding gun ownership in our country. As a gun owner myself, I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. The Constitution is clear on this issue: we have the right to bear arms.

I own a gun because I believe in the right of every American to have guns for self-defense and hunting. All gun owners have a responsibility to handle their guns safely. That's why I support gun safety legislation that sets minimum regulations for safety locks and removes unsafe locks from the market.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about gun ownership with me. It is truly an honor to serve and represent you. Please don't hesitate to call my offices with any issues or concerns, and feel free to sign up for e-mail updates at www.giffords.house.gov.

Sincerely,

Gabrielle Giffords

Member of Congress

Needless to say, I was slightly shocked. Now, I realize that she did not specifically detail her intention regarding the proposed legislation, but she did without limitation throw her support behind the second amendment and her belief that the right to bear arms is a personal freedom. I applaud her, but remember John Kerry walking along with a shot gun over his arm.

I am torn.

I used to own a handgun, I sold it when my children became curious, and I fully plan on owning another when they move out.
I have a friend who lost a daughter to a handgun in the home at the hand of his son by accident. I know the deep sorrow he feels and I just don't want to take the chance of something like that occurring to one of my children.

Their voting record tells the tail. In the meantime stock up on 7.62x39 ammo, hi-cap mags, AK kits, and AR lowers.

This is exactly the sort of s*** I have been arguing with you guys on the other thread. This is hilarious. She cornered you. Of course she supports the second amendment and I do too but I don't own a gun (she does, that is her right). What is her obligation to you any more than saying what she has said; she pretty much addressed this as much as it needed to be. Gabrielle Giffords, D...I salute you!

Your skepticism and POV on the 2nd amendment again allows me to keep the tank in my driveway and nuclear arsenal in my basement. Go back and look at the issue with some 'COMMONSENSE.' (see how that worked out... )

OOO the scary Democrat is always ready to take your pop gun away...gimme a break.

In answer to your question, yes, some of us do, and we know how to use them too.

Great post. I share your sentiments exactly. I support gun ownership for protection, collection, hunting as long as the owner is not a convicted felon. I believe in a national registry. Where does the second amentdment draw the line...should I be allowed to own a shoulder fired missle to take down planes?

On a side note I do not own a gun (except a Japanese sniper rifle WW2 inherited) that has no ammo. I have no desire to own a gun but if I did feel threatened I would want to be able to buy one. There may come a time when I feel the need but I do not right now.One question..when I read gun control threads some of the men sound like they are scared sh**less most of the time unless they have their gun with them. I travel to remote regions of the world and of course would be unable to take a gun. I jog everyday on country roads. I work odd shifts and used to work in the inner city. I am pretty street smart and can say not once in my life have I ever thought I needed a gun to be safe.I am petite, female and blonde and I am not scared all the time. Whats up with all the men? If someone feels they need a gun to be safe they should be allowed to own one...no doubt about it...but why in the hell are all of the men scared half to death at the thought of not having a gun at your side. If someone jumped me they would be in for a fight they would not ever forget.
