I have been a long-time gun enthusiast and big game hunter. Throughout the years I have owned a number of rifles and shotguns made by John Rigby & Co. of London. My favorite is a .275 Rigby (7x57mm Mauser) “best quality” magazine rifle with a Schmidt & Bender 4x36 scope with Rigby “quick detachable” mounts. It is very probably the best rifle ever made.

my son targets with an old 1957 hungarian 7mm. we'd like to find a range that has targets at over 400 yards. why the scope on your gun? you having a hard time seeing out to 800 yards?

My rifle was made in 1955, and I purchased it new from Rigby in the early 1960's. It came with the quick-detachable scope mounts; however, I did not use a scope for hunting. (It has a fixed “express” sight with two folding leaves calibrated for 100, 200 and 300 yards; which is the range for hunting most large game.) The scope is a recent acquisition, as my eyesight is no longer what it used to be.

im sorry i cracked on your eyesight. my bad. mine is shot too. its been close to 15 years since ive gone hunting. { moved to texas in 1991 }. i used to hunt with a minni 14 { still have it } at about 35 feet. i used to use a 10 mm delta elite also. i guess im the only one who knows how to infiltrate game. snipering for animals is not hunting in my book. if you are slow enough you dont even need cammies.
