Sorry, but that statement is incorrect. the 1896 Mauser broomhandle was a
Cal 7.63mm . the 9mmX19mm "parabellum" round version was manufactured during WWII and was dubbed the "Red 9". Because its' size was identical to the original, a "9" character was imprinted on the wooden grip which was painted red, to end confusion and accidental loading of wrong ammo.... hence the "Red 9". Other models of this pistol include the exotic Chinese version which looks similar, but is much larger and is made to use large .45 ACP rounds. - Just pointing out a bit of an anachronism
