No one can argue that their are tragedies with kids more often these days. But the gun is not the evil it is the parents and their lack of teaching and supervision etc.. It is not only sad it is sick to take the focus off of this tragedy to make it a anti gun rally. Maybe that is why it still happens in a lot of cases because the focus is not on the real thing of blame and that is the parents. Jan I am not attacking you but let me tell you if you have a child and just keep that child away from guns and think you are protecting that child you are misguided by blind fear. That child will be out of your house and control one day and you think they will never run across a gun at a friends house or buy one themselves. Now they know nothing about it and play with it and now you have a real problem and danger. Now if they shoot themselves by accident or someone else who's fault realy is that. Maybe not directly your fault but you bear some guilt because you did not protect them by hidding them from it no more so than if you hide them from driving a car.

You could say the same thing with women that try to get high power jobs or boob jobs etc. etc. can you see how your bias rationality kinda back fires on you? It don't matter why someone likes guns and their are women who love and own guns would your little drift apply to them as we know your refering to men.

My children are grown and out of the house already. My oldest daugher's husband has guns...he keeps them in the bedroom closet. I worry about my 2 Grandkids getting into those guns. The father says "they know better"...I'm thinking "yeah, right!"

So you see him as lacking as a father you have personal experiences proving he is irresponsable and don't teach the children? If you had the time and money I could take you to many places where kids have guns in their rooms on gun racks because they have had it driven in at a young age and supervision and use and the dangers of such a tool. No accidents no killing sprees no nothing. Rather kids that you would find to be above average for their age as far as responsable and think and have common sense something that is realy lacking these days. why because they were taught they were not asked they expected to learn and held to a standard. Given responsability and new what was expected of them etc. etc.. I have guns and have an 18 month old daughter that is hell on wheels. My guns are not only locked up they are up high in locked cases. Double protection because now is not the time for her to even be around them. Do I worry no because I know where she is every second. That is why I don't believe in cambinet locks or plug inserts yada yada yada. My mother in law ask me if I made the house child safe and I said yes I'm right here. The gun is not the danger the parent is lets work on the real problem if we expect to avoid these tragedies in the future.
