Democrat Liberals back then told us that by the year 1985, or by the year 2000 at the latest that the smog on this planet would be so bad that the air would be unbreathable.....
That we would all need gas masks to breath!!!!

Showed all of their scientific data.....

Called it a fact!!!!

Well here we all are.... 2008 and the sky is blue just like it was back then and the air is fine.....

Well since that did not happen they needed their new and improved scare tactic......

and they wonder why people like me who can remember this same crap from about 30 years ago are not convinced.....

Let me tell you somethinmg that they lie to those uneducated on the sybject about on almost a daily basis....

Environmentalists rape the American people by exploiting the fact in court that all fuels deplete natural resources and create pollution.

You left out one critical point. The smog that was choking major cities in the US and killing people would spread to many other parts of the US unless action is taken to stop the pollution that causes the smog.

In 1970, Republican President Nixon signed the Clean Air Act, and created by executive order the EPA, and within a decade significant progess was made in reducing the amount of smog creating pollution emitted in the US. And air quality has continued to be monitored for ozone producing chemicals, for ozone levels, and action continues to be taken to eliminate the sources of emissions that produce the smog producing ozone.

Still, if you go to places where almost no motor vehicles are allowed, places where few stationary sources of emissions are allowed, like the Grand Canyon, smog is not uncommon as a result of pollution from man-made sources hundreds of miles away. And that is something that is more common today than it was in the 1960s.

(In the 60s, the environmental fight was to prevent turning the Grand Canyon into another reservoir that would further damage the natural wonders of these United States.)

But I imagine you tell your dentist after he notes the cavities, gum disease, and other problems: "you keep telling me that if I don't start brushing and flossing I will lose all my teeth, but I haven't lost any teeth since I started brushing and flossing so you were lying when you told me that I would lose my teeth."

Car makers and Republicans are the only people actually doing something about pollution. Environmentalists are only concerned about profits from lawsuits and phony hoaxes.

So, why have the automakers and Republicans been so opposed to increasing the CAFE standards, so opposed to California continuing to address its pollution problems (don't Republicans support States' Rights especially at the behest of a Republican governor?), and so opposed to implementing the law requiring new source reductions for the power plants polluting New England?

You know, if the automakers and Republicans and power plants would just clean up the pollution, the environmentalists would have nothing to sue about and thus no opportunity to profit from lawsuits.

I don't think your claims make any sense. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and let you explain why it is that Republicans, automakers, and power plants are doing everything they can to make environmentalists have lots of things to sue about, and have such clear cut cases that even the Supreme Court which is Republican by seven to two, says the environmentalists should win, and in your theory, profit.

Of course, if you are for free markets, then you should be absolutely totally in support of anything done legally that produces a profit. If you are opposed to the environmentalists profiting from their lawsuits to enforce the law, law that a Republican Supreme Court says must be enforced by lawsuits, then you must be a socialist or a Marxist.
