Default Obama on Energy and the Environment

PLAN FOR A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE

“Well, I don't believe that climate change is just an issue that's convenient to bring up during a campaign. I believe it's one of the greatest moral challenges of our generation. That's why I've fought successfully in the Senate to increase our investment in renewable fuels. That's why I reached across the aisle to come up with a plan to raise our fuel standards… And I didn't just give a speech about it in front of some environmental audience in California. I went to Detroit, I stood in front of a group of automakers, and I told them that when I am president, there will be no more excuses — we will help them retool their factories, but they will have to make cars that use less oil.”
— Barack Obama, Speech in Des Moines, IA, October 14, 2007

McCain is trying to get to the left of Obama:

Quote:
We will cap emissions according to specific goals, measuring progress by reference to past carbon emissions. By the year 2012, we will seek a return to 2005 levels of emission, by 2020, a return to 1990 levels, and so on until we have achieved at least a reduction of sixty percent below 1990 levels by the year 2050.

....As part of my cap-and-trade incentives, I will also propose to include the purchase of offsets from those outside the scope of the trading system....Through the sale of offsets — and with strict standards to assure that reductions are real — our agricultural sector alone can provide as much as forty percent of the overall reductions we will require in greenhouse gas emissions....Over time, an increasing fraction of permits for emissions could be supplied by auction, yielding federal revenues that can be put to good use.

Is Obama referring to the morality of him wanting to give billion$$$ in Corporate welfare to retool the automaker's factories to continue to use gasoline and also take $10 Billion from the taxpayers each year for alternative fuels?
Obama seems to have issues with his own morality.

Large Corporations are already being blackmailed into buying carbon credits.
I do like the thought of forcing foreign based Corporations being blackmailed to buy carbon credits. It keeps the playing field level for Americans.
