Next to Alfred the Great.

BTW: The man that I believe is one of my great-grandfathers was supposedly descended from Edward III and by him from Alfred the Great. This man was also supposedly a long-distant cousin of George Washington and the Spencer family of England and thus both Churchill and Princess Diana.

Cool! I'll bet it's fascinating to read history when one's family is in the history books! I have a few family members who are in a few history books, only because they were outlaws! Betcha couldn't have figured that one out, could you?

When I read about British royalty I almost get a headache trying to keep them sorted out----they used the same names so often it's sometimes difficult to figure out exactly who they are talking about. Victorian era is full of "dear this one" and "dear that one".......... I really like it. Albert the Prince Consort was always, "Dear papa" or "Dear Albert"...I wonder if they really held all these people "dear" or if that was just a figure of speech?

She thinks that everyone should have to learn English if they are to live and work in this country.

Also since the early 80's utility bills in Texas have both English and Spanish on them so people know how much to pay. It seems to me that we are really hurting ourselves with this but you will never convince liberals of this. Their are American school on the southern border in Texas that are taught totaly in Spanish. It doesn't seem to me that we are requiring these people to blend into our society.
Rob you make a good point here, stroll down the main street of Surfers Paradise and all the signs are in either Japanese or Chinese. This problem is Government instigated so as to pander the Asian tourist market.
Now if I take a holiday in another country, then I would hope to experience the local culture and language, no be shuttled around to places where Australian is spoken.

Being related to royalty is not really all that difficult. There are something like 3,000,000 people who descended from Edward III living in Great Britain alone. In a county that has only 60 million people, that’s 5% of the population.

Learning the names of the monarchs is not all that difficult. Trying to match the nobility with their titles can be a nightmare. For example: Elizabeth I had two main counselors. One was named Cecil, the other Dudley. But she eventually gave them both a title of nobility- Cecil became Lord Burleigh and Dudley became the Earl of Leicster(sp?). Some history books will use only their given names, other may use only their titles and some will use both depending on the time period being discussed at the moment. That’s hard enough, but then several generations later when a whole string of descendants have had that title you cannot help but get lost.

There have been China towns in America for well over 100 years and the Chinese signage today is not any different than it was a century ago. The first immigration law enacted by the United States was the Chinese Exclusion Act. This law had an element of racism in it as do the laws directed solely at Hispanics do today.

Hispanics do not make up a majority of our immigrant population, but they are the main, if not sole, target of most of our latterday Know Nothings.
