Default Technology

In the lifetime of most of us on this board. huge technological advances have been made. Do you think these advances have made our lives better?

Personally, it is a mixed bag.

Medical Technology is fantastic. Advances have been huge throughout my lifetime. Birth mortality is way down. People are living longer and the quality of the later years has improved.

The internet is great. Information that would take hours in a library to find is at your fingertips in minutes or seconds.

Communication, cell phones, e-mail, text messaging, all bad things. People are not social as they once were. People do not disconnect. It is an addiction and will only get worse.

Automobiles have made great strides in safety and longevity, though they lack style and all look alike these days.

What do you think?

I agree that because of technology we've lost that interpersonal connection with each other...it's just not the same as face to face...not nearly as intimate.

The tech is OK. My father and I descussed this. His view was that around 30 years ago we reached a point where we had made it a physically as it could be without comprimising mental tasking. For years people worked long hard hours in factories, then came the five day work week. There was a time when you had better have your gas by Sat at 9pm because Sun. was a definite no-go.

It's the utter depndance on the technology that is the most disturbing. People act as if they can't leave the house without a phone on them.

And if the power goes out the stores close down completely cause they have no idea how to write up a sale manually until they can put it in the computer.

Actually no, the generation in their 20-30's are expected to live shorter lives than their parents. Reason, the increase in toxins in the enviorment.

Communication is much more than texting and speaking via a cell. Communication requires the use of all senses, most importantly visual communication. So this form of communication is good for individual reading, it actually does not complete the picture,(eg Reading the Bible on an individual level will always lead to a different perception from someone elses pereception).
This form of communication also lead to falsehoods, an that aint good.

Yes they do all look the same, thats because computers dictate the design, ie, aero dynamic design etc.

I think technology is a blessing and a curse, it feeds our ego in the respect to our intelligence of any other living thing we know of,(this feeds as some may say the satanic side of humanity).
But on a positive note, its has certainly allowed me to communicate with people I well never meet in the flesh. It also has allowed the people of Earth, you and me, to band together as one, to express our thoughts and given us strength in the belief that the people will always win.
