Should The Church Pulpit Be Used By Politicians As a Political Platform?
The more appropriate question would be: "Who has the right to decide what can and cannot be said from any pulpit in any church?"

Answer: Other than God and those who are members of the congregation where the pulpit stands, NO ONE.

Need verification? Check the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Actually, demanding that a church give up it's tax exempt status would be illegal because it would in fact be an act intended to penalize (through taxation) those churches that refused to remain silent about issues that are important to the church. King George attempted to do that very thing by rewarding the churches that supported him and penalizing those that didn't. And that is what the 1st Amendment was written to protect us from.

The churches mission is to worship and teach gods will and if the congragation use this in there private lives to make political decisions on there own that is fine. But for the church to use it's influence on it's congragation to further it's political stand is wrong. What is good for the church is to worship god with out fear of the freedom to do so and that is it.

Church over state and state over church are both wrong, it takes away at some level of the freedom to choose. You have a religious based society or a religiously ran society, the one is influenced and there for bases his actions and lives based on those religious morals at the same time you have the right not to with out fear of reprisal. The other you only have the choice will be taken away because it would in every sence church over state and your choice to do something that is against religious beliefs or the law of the church would be taken away. It is a fine line to be sure but once you cross that line one way or another or even blur it you have taken away the freedom of that society on both sides.

I don't have a problem with churches encouraging members to vote but their purpose is to worship and not be used as a political platform. A poltician that uses a church to further his political career is just selling his soul for votes.

That is why they should not even encourage because like polaticians if you give them an inch they can take a mile.

Are you going to be the one to tell them whom they can and cannot invite to their services ?
