How do propose the citizens get around to that before it is too late?

The United States..
that is, the nation-state, is a combine that of course will be effected by passing years.
The rise and fall of any civilization is greatly influenced by the resources available. The USA had some great advantages ( notably a continent undepleted by 12 centuries of dense occupation ) but the dynamism of the new world was accompanied by a culture that embraced the freedom to
"sink or swim".
The American culture is the epitome of a conceptual difference
that confronting and overcoming the adversities of a wilderness make.
Necessity is the mother of invention; and this is not merely a farmers almanac cliche'
it is a way of taming the frontier. This iconoclastic way of life, while able to benefit from all of europes academic superiority really did look at the world a new way.
that is a unique genesis and our culture made a unique compact with its government. The reexamination of man and society made a nation based on an ideal consonant with a philosophy. ( it was not a perfect concept nor without inherited contradictions, nonetheless)
That Idealism has been an unquantifiable resource for our nation because it expresses itself in each citizen striving for his ( or her) own excellence.
The creativity and intellectual perseverence that INVENTS, creates, and otherwise produces an improvement. It is still the optimism and curiousity within us.. even if we are no longer garage inventors and greasemonkey physicists.

It is the culture that is being corroded. It is not merely the maturation of our territories and population. It is the calcification and unappreciation
of our society that will dissolve us.

TRT14, my only propisition is that we must get back to the basics that made this country great. First off we need to get off the socialist train and start accepting responibities for our own survivial. Get rid of the idea that the goverment owes me something and start helping each other.

America is falling as we speak, and Bush is a major contributing factor. The country, hopefull, will remain strong after the next election and until I die. I'd hate to see the day that the global economy went down together.

How many superpowers before us have realized that empires do not last but failed to plan for longevity? That would be everyone. The fact that we are planning and discussing ways to make this country better encourages me that this country has a future. We also need to be brutally honest with ourselves to be successful in bringing this country back to the respect it deserved and received pre Bush administration.

Pre Bush was joke. We were laughed at all around the world for all of our presidents misdeeds.

socialist train??? you mean like the land rush or land grant universites? how about the national flood a levee system? or maybe you think the national interstate and hiway system is a bit to commie for you. perhaps we should do away with national reserch and grant money for science and medicine. just about everything that makes us great came from the idea of shared growth mixed with open markets.

the citizen is the goverment, our hard work, families and mutual goals have made us into the most powerful nation on the planet. of course it is social....thats why they call it society!
