Default AWE Question ...

What is the neocon motivation for wanting to discredit and shut down the UN?

Actually I believe some of it comes from Revelations in which it states the Wild Beast sets up another "King" through which the Wild Beast does its dirty work. Many interpret the new "King" to be the UN and since the Wild Beast is some imaginary antichrist from the Middle East, the right-wingers believe that they can beat their own interpretation of Bible prophesey by opposing the UN. That's just one of the ding-bat theories I've heard for the basis of opposing the UN.

If you ever get exposure to the ultra right hate groups you will find that almost all of their "beliefs" are based on some really weird(by my standards) and twisted interpretation of Bible verses.

But actually, greybeard's explanation is much more practical!!!

I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that most neocons are Jewish and Israel is in violation of 25 +/- UN resolutions. And because Israel is a rogue state, the neocons wouldn't mind if we became a rogue state also.

And lose a permanent seat on the security council? Tough call.

Is the Wild Beast the same as the "great whore of Babylon?" I read an old version of the Bible.

In most interpretations it is not. I can't place the exact quote but I believe you are referring to the "great harlot" (Rev. 17, 1-2)which many interpret as being all of Christendom or as protesants prefer, just the Catholic Church. The Wild Beast generally refers to Satan's earthly governmental system that exercises authority over mankind. Churches are another form of a system that exercises authority over mankind. The two are not one and the same. But both are corrupt because they are run by man who is flawed.

Of course, there are a lot of people who will have their own interpretations.

Actually what the Bible says that people interpret as the UN is "and the wild beast that was but is not, it is also itself an eighth king, but springs for the seven, and it goes off into destruction" (Revelations 17:11)

Many consider the "eighth king" as the UN.
