Most of these books are in my library and have made a profound effect on my thinking. The ones I don't own I have been able to find in the libraries, either public or university. A few are added recommendations by friends to whom I showed the list, which is why I posted it here-->to collect more titles under the specific headings.

Yes, I have been to several Pennsics and Estrella Wars (here in the Outlands). I am Betuiros mapos Romani, a 5th century Romano-Brit who fights with a gladius & a scutum (sword & shield) as pictured below. I love killing glaivesmen and greatswordsmen, and Saxon personaes of any variety. There's an old video of me killing one of the latter devils on my MySpace site. I get a little off balance trying to avoid his much longer sword when he's on his knees, but manage to stab him in the face in the end.

And yourself? Might we have crossed swords in 1988, 1992 or 1996?

No probably not, though I was there in 96'. Due to my epilisy they wouldn't let me fight in heavy combat, only in Rapier. I do know how to fight with a sword and shield as well as dual weapon style though. I did fight some in the Rapier but was still new at it so I wasn't very good. I was Corradin de Riminaldo a 15th century Italian that fought with the rapier and main gauche here in Ansteorra.
I left the SCA because of funding (it is not cheap) then I got married and life got in the way of coming back. Me and my wife plan to rejoin in the not to distance future (depending again on finances)

I'm actually reading "City of Falling Angels". I also just got done with "one more day". I don't need to read books to tell me how to think.

I would love to go to Venice. My brother wouldn't shut up about it when he got back. Not sure how it fits in with conservative thinking, but I'd probably check it out because I liked John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil so much. It even made a fair movie.

Do you mean "to tell me what to think"?
Because, hopefully, you've always known how to think.

So, then, do you prefer to obtain your info/facts by television or by osmosis?
Why, then, read a book like One More Day (by Steven Dale Jones, Bobby Tomberlin & Diamond Rio) if not to learn something and improve your relationships with people?

Default Two more for Capitalism/Economics

Here are two recent titles that I highly recommend:

"Mellon: An American Life" by David Cannadine

"Carnegie" by David Nasaw

I have read things here and there about these men, but these two books revealed so much more about them and really put their beliefs and actions into perspective.
The books made it clearer to me why it is so important in capitalism to always be in competition, but never to win.

Qurmudjin,

I read a post earlier by you which commented ont he fact that your reading list did not have very many posts after it and it indicated that people on here didn't read very much. While that may be true, you didn't really ask for any responses. You asked for people to add some titles, but I am not sure what you are looking for. I have read several of the titles on your list, including all the Ayn Rand you had plus titles of the Enlightenment authors such as Hobbes, Mill, and Locke. There are others on your list such as Mona Charen on your list which I have read and I am sure that I have read more than a few that were not on your list which you would enjoy. Maybe you are just looking for a list, but I would want to know why they enjoyed the book or thought someone else would find it valuable.

What exactly do you want? Is it just a book title or something like people telling you what a book is about and why is it good? I think that The World is Flat is a good book for recent political/social/economic history, and that is one that I would add. Tell us what you want and then you may see some responses. I think just a generic list may have been the reason why you received so little responses. Plus, if you asked for someone to tell you why they recommended it, it would mean more. Anyone can search for some political/philosophical books on the net and give a blurb - it doesn't prove anything. Perhaps if you ask people to tell why they recommend the book you would get more responses.

By the way, I think The City of God took me longer to read than any other book ever did.
