Unfortunately, you live in the United States of America and we have roads and bridges that have been allowed to crumble, an education system at the bottom of the barrel globally, a poverty situation that needs to be fixed from the ground up, etc., etc., etc., not to mention our expected leadership position in the world which translates into mega-billions in foreign aid. Clearly you all realize we are a matter of a few weeks away from the most massive political realignment and correction in America since reconstruction. Even in your most optimistic personal reckonings, you all realize there is a new American majority.

In light of this, here is some sound advice.

Take a year or so to rattle your sabers. You’ll need that to work though your grief and frustration.

Once that process is over, here is some more sound advice;

Republicans need to decide who they are and what they intend to be. Like it of not, the Fundy Xian right / Neo Con / Fiscal conservative / Trailer dweller coalition has in the long term, shown to be a failed experiment.

Clean house and take out the trash. Confining your base to the most fringe right wing kooks in America, will never produce the numbers needed to even be an effective minority party

FIRST….If you Republicans really care about the long term future of your party, you should all vote for the democrat in more then half the house races in the US come November 4th. The house Republicans are a collection of bitter inept wrong minded sods. If you are all not embarrassed by them, you should be, and your party would be best served by taking a LOSS in your numbers to rid yourselves of them and their supporters.
Being the party of the “12x70” dwelling unemployed 10th grade drop out and making a national impact are over
Don’t feel bad for them; they will land on their feet in a right wing extremist minor 3rd party somewhere and the fact is, had their mentors not rushed to the GOP during the civil rights movement, they would have had no Republican loyalty anyway

SECOND…Once you rid yourselves of the Neo Nazis and retro Slavocrats, (yes knuckleheads, that is a real term) Become what the Republican Party was and should have always been before it was hijacked in 1980, and follow the example of the honorable Republicans of the past (Goldwater, Eisenhower, Rockefeller, Lindsay, etc)
In those days, the Republican Party was a stabilizing force in American life. They were not hateful partisan or mean spirited. To Liberals of the day, they were like a cranky but wise Uncle who advised us to simmer down when we got over exited. This was the condition of coexistence that cut the rate of poverty in half between 1960 and 1980, eliminated childhood diseases, and ushered in desegregation and civil rights. Even the troubled Nixon administration, was responsible for a part of the great society legislation being signed into law, and helped advance civil rights and progress.

THIRD…Do this SOON and avoid the tendency to “revert to your base” after a harsh defeat. It is that base that ravaged your party in the first place. There are still a few bricks in the Senate on which to build, but Collins, Lugar, Snow and the others are getting long of tooth, so the clock is ticking.

Oh, and finally, please take Joe Lieberman off our hands, we need his office space
