Couldn't that logic be applied anywhere? Isn't it reasonable to conclude that if we are stupid enough to allow terrorists to attack our troops, there will be terrorists there? The logic should be: why would we do it? What do we have to gain by taking such risks? What is it suppose to accomplish? Could the presence of a foreign power, make someone into a terrorists who otherwise wouldn't be?
Let's say at some point, Iraq doesn't have a civil war and things settle down. Our troops will still attract terrorists. It isn't possible to seal off a country and prevent terrorists to enter it, and some Iraqis will object to a foreign presence. Is there any possible scenario that could possibly be considered a win? I don't even see how winning or losing is involved. It isn't a war. Nation building is not a military objective and anyone with military experience would be quick to tell you that. Our military is, therefore, just a security force while nation building is going on. There is an alternative. Let the Iraqis be their own security force. Winning and losing doesn't apply to them, either. They can either do a good job or a bad one and no matter how bad it got, it only took around 100 American lives to take the country in the first place. You could always take the country back.
I think it is stupid to use troops like bait to find terrorists.
