Toby, search some of my posts. I've done some real statistical analysis on the subject that your straight line, linear red & blue gas price graphs don't quite capture. What I have found...
- The current rising trend began in 1999....and, not counting the lull around 9/11, began in earnest in 2002.
- So far, 2005 was the worst complete year for rising prices....although 2008 is on pace to surpass it. See the following links....

Anyone with half a brain and can read a graph can see that the recent rising trend did not start in January 2007. With a few hick ups, it began in 1999....that is clear....and there is plenty of blame to go around...Republicans, Democrats, you, me, etc...

The best thing about the graph is that it shows that Nanci Peloci and the "Democratic Plan" to lower gas prices doesent exist! She promised better results than the Republican Congress yet look at the graph itself. It all goes to show that "while they promised" lower energy prices it was all just a political stunt to get elected. See below!

Its been going on for the past 30 years of democrats blocking drilling and coal. I dont shift all of the blame to the democrats. Just most of it. The Republicans should have pushed this issue harder. But they didn't. However thay have passed legeslation that was repeativly vetoed in the years past and they are working in congress now while the Democrats are going on a 5 week vacation.
