As to the Shiite Sunni split it has to do with whom was the successor. In essence the one Mohammad considered the best caliph not related was Ali. The Sunni wanted the succession to be based on who was the best or "rightly guided caliphs" a theo/political process whereases the Shias agreed Ali was a "rightly guided caliph" but after him it should only be the descendants of Mohammad.
Death ensued, in Iraq. Hence the yearly self lashings Shiites do in honor & respect for the slaughter of Hussein the original split followers of the Shiite path.

My reference is probably more in line with the explanation that scholar Karen Armstrong gives or even Erich Kahler but essentially it is who is the true carrier of the message and what is now the contemporary message. And so it is with the split with Sunni and Shiite...I am using the term God in a very general way here...it is the message really and who they beleive to be the source. I use the word in the sense that a cleric who is extremist and evil can be put (or put himself) in that position of a false prophet or God. I see now difference with the main, blind cleric Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman involved in shaping the first WTC bombing in 1993 and someone like Pat Robertson who enflames some of the most religiously bigoted rhetoric and causes anyone has seen.

And of course, Republicans were in charge of our national defense on 9/11.

"That's why I said to the Taliban in Afghanistan: Get rid of al Qaeda; see, you're harboring al Qaeda. Remember this is a place where they trained -- al Qaeda trained thousands of people in Afghanistan. And the Taliban, I guess, just didn't believe me. President Bush ... a man who means what he says and says what he means.

Although, I have to admit, one of the first things that came to mind, was the radical religious right in our country. I made the comment to my parents, "that the Islam radicals killing others in the name of Allah, eerily reminded me of Religious Rightwing nutjobs who blow up abortion clinics or murder doctors, all in the name of God". Obviously, this does not mean that all in the religious Right would do these things (nor that all Muslims are terrorist), but the radical element of the Christian Right does tend to remind one of Radical Islam...

Interesting. I tend to see more similarities between the Christian "right" and the militant "left"...the environmental wackos. Their methods and ideals are far different than radical Islam.

We dont live in an "administration" world! That is nothing more than a construct to keep the fools cackling like old hens and give the people who see government as nothing more than a football game their team to root for.
Its the government as a whole. We created the taliban, the cia's drug biz is booming! Think its bullshit? Back in the good ole days england went to war with china when china banned drugs! Thats a government going to war to keep the drug trade alive and well! Think its any different today?
Anyway those taly ban poppy plantations are going to have a kick azz bumper crop this year they are doing so well!
