Yes, you misunderstood. That is what Clinton did. Isolated Pakistan and cut off the Northern Alliance. I was saying what I would have done differently, I would have used the Northern Alliance to counter that Taliban or used the ISS to get the NA to turn OBL over. Either would have addressed the problem.

I don't buy it, TS. The only way that the Taliban were going to be overthrown was by direct US involvement. We had no real means of strengthening and supporting the Northen Alliance enough to change the balance of power. As for Pakistan, they continued to work with us against the terrorists throughout the 90s, e.g., Youseff, etc. They did like the Taliban and possibly still do to some extent. I didn't see us changing that.

Anyway, it seems that you are suggesting a Cold War approach....working with people (sometimes shady people) as a means to an end. That's fine....I'm always open to that. Shit, I would have played around with the idea of working with Saddam. I'm just not sure that the approach alone or as the primary approach would've helped us with our terrorism problem.

Actually, many experts feel we are winning the war on terror. No attacks in 7 years. Al Qaeda's money has been cut off, their communications have been cut off, over 20,000 killed in Iraq, and bin laden trapped in a village on the Afghan and Pakistan border.

There have been loads of attacks in the last 7 years, just none here. It doesn't make me feel better knowing the casualties are civilians of other countries, they are still people with families, children, dreams, hopes. 51 PEOPLE were killed Tuesday.

As long as we view "success" as ONLY no American attacks, we are NOT going to "win" this war....We are one species on one planet.....Body counts are meaningless as a way of determining success, especially in a "war" such as the "war on terror."
