In order to go into combat you have to understand combat.
Do you really want someone in command who has no first knowledge of war?
War has been ongoing since the beginning of time and will probably be the destruction of man, there will always be war.

If your Captain America has been in combat, pity help you when he finally brings his war baggage home.

And don't be lulled into a false sense of security by any lull before the storm. Often it takes a decade, or even more, before the lost steamer trunk of memories finally lobs on your doostep.

I agree.

I've watched soldiers (past and present) in the media, giving testimony about their service and how it has affected them, and none seem to gorify war in any way. Moreover, it brings much emotion and true relief that they made it through it, that I would think ex-combat veterans are the most likely to see going to war, or staying in one, as an absolute last choice.
So Les, as a veteran, do you agree with that?
