Default How many Gulfstream IVs should a ...

corporation be able to claim as a business expense? How many corporate retreats should a corporation be able to claim as a business expense? How many booster club tickets should a corporation be able to claim as a business expense?

Seems to me that in these days of e-mail, video teleconferencing, high fuel costs, overnight mail, etc., the answer should be NONE. NUNCA. NADA.

Do you need a $30,000,000 dollar bizjet to close a $30,000 sale? I dunno. Maybe YOU do. I don't.

Actually many of those things are no longer tax deductible. IRS has really cracked down on entertainment deductions on such expenses.

However, at the same time, for many companies they are still worthwhile expenses (even if not tax deductible) if only for sales reasons.

>>>I know, I know, I know. You pull up to the gate at the executive terminal, you meet your client, invite him for a spin in the Lear, let him hump your 26-year old "secretary" in the rear cabin, and close the deal before lunch. Even if not totally deductable, it leaves you time for 18-holes in the afternoon.

Image, gentlemen, means the difference between impressing a bureaucrat who holds the purse strings and having your competition get the business. If you have it flaunt it, or just get our of the game. Winners win, losers question the methodology. I'm not saying you guys are losers, just unfamiliar with what it takes to be successful in the corporate world.

I see you have been reading your Marx. Your views on corporate life are about as accurate as his on capitalistic life.

Or in other word, I detect a lot of projection going on there.

Unfortunately Amigo, you don't get to make those decisions for everyone, you do, however, get to pay the freight via mark-ups. Mostly, it is the mega-corps which do the things of which you speak, many of them are defense contractors such as GE, the Carlysle Group, Haliburton, etc.

Again, most of these expenses are no longer tax deductible, so you are not paying for them. If you don't like what executives do, then you don't have to buy from their companies.

I am not saying that indulging doesn't happen, it does. You are dealing with humans, so some companies are decent, others aren't. I am only addressing the certain specific allegations about how "taxpayers are paying for this". In most cases they are not.

You must have worked at one of the same Fortune 100 Corporations I worked at.

Years ago I was shocked when the young airhead (Secretary type) gals would understand they were suppose to get humped by the customer.

Today it is even more in the open.

Every "Program Manager" is female and clearly understands her mission. I was quite surprised when the Pgm Mgr (at a defense contractor) showed up in low hip hugger jeans (with the appropriate tattoo exposed at the hair line) and a halter top. After a few minutes of subtle foreplay talk, it was clear that she was going to be working exclusively on her back for those guys.

Women seem to have got progressively more pragmatic in the workplace and must be cheaper than operating a Gulfstream.
