Here is a vivid example of how an ignorant man will distort that which he does not understand to create a subjective conclusion he then tries to pass off as a fact. To start with he can't even get the holiday right. Its said on Yom Kippur not Passover.

The rough translation of the kol nidre is as follows;


All vows , obligations, oaths, and anathemas, whether called onam,' 'onas,' or by any other name, which we may vow, or swear, or pledge, or whereby we may be bound, from this Day of Atonement until the next (whose happy coming we await), we do repent. May they be deemed absolved, forgiven, annulled, and void, and made of no effect; they shall not bind us nor have power over us. The vows shall not be reckoned vows; the obligations shall not be obligatory; nor the oaths be oaths."

What happened when this prayer was first introduced to the Jewish prayer service anti-semites spread unfounded rumours that it was proof Jews were saying a prayer that said they are allowed to lie and get away with it.

The vows referred to in the "Kol Nidre" only refer to thos vows which an individual voluntarily assumes for himself alone and in which no other persons or their interests are involved.

What the prayer is doing is quite simple if you understand its purpose and context. During the day of Attonement (Yom Kippur) a Jew apologizes to God for all the mistakes he made the year before.

This prayer could be simply translated in modern language as: " I promised you last year I would do my best not to fail you-I didn't do my best-so I must promise you again and try harder this year ".

The above reference is only meant for the individual when apologizing to God to say he must start again and does not feel he lived up to the promise and so he promises again and starts all over again. Its a sign of humility-its a concept that even a Jew who did the best and helped others that year, still must apologize and start again.

The ignorant people who do not take the time to understand the context and reference of the prayer like Icy-Lasher invent myths based on their misunderstanding of it.

The prayer above was always restricted to those vows which concern only the relation of man to his conscience or to God. No vow, promise, or oath, however, which concerns another person, a court of justice, or a community is implied in the "Kol Nidre" and any idiot who takes the time to find out what it refers to would know that.

But then this idiot thinks the prayer is recited at Passover so why would we expect him to understand anything else.
