False. Its been a very well proven thing that a supply/demand approach to the oil market DOES NOT REFLECT HOW IT WORKS. Its been said by economists, oil men, congressmen. This is not free trade, this is not equally accessible commodities. Gas costs have not gone up enough to account for the oil spikes. Gas isn't being produced less today than it was two years ago, in fact its the opposite. Global demand is deceasing, Brazil's energy is 40% ethanol from 0% only three years ago. Europeans and Americans are driving less, with more fuel efficient vehicle. Its all based on SPECULATION. The speculative market is where Gas gets fucked up.

No, we don't live in a free market. Thats gotta be one of the most uninformed economic observations I've ever heard. You realize we put a tax on imports. That we bail out companies. I think you've confused NAFTA, the NORTH AMERICAN Free Trade with world free trade, which does not exist in the least.
The government doesn't need to regulate prices though, I agree, they need to regulate the entire business. Its an incredibly dangerous and powerful position to be an oil man, a power one can have even over a country of our strength. We need to regulate refinement, mandate energy-saving laws, legalize the creation of home made biodeisel converters and other new technologies the oil companies have paid millions to lobbyists to make illegal.
The car companies say they're more than ready for any new type of energy. Clearly Americans are ready. We have the technology, will, money, supply, demand, all thats there. Except the oil company stands in the way. Is that Free Trade? no, its not asshole.

Corn is not the answer. The production of corn ethanol requires excessive pollution akin to petroleum. Sugar Cane fields can be used to produce sugar canes, the waste, all the brush and leaves of the cane left over, can be converted into ethanol 85 as well, but with a much cleaner burn. It also will have the added bonus of dramatically increasing the amount of sugar in the world. What Would Willy Wonka do?
