    Politics of pop culture/music...the DC

The Dixie Chicks have gone through quite an evolution with thier careers during the past 3-4 years (I can take or leave thier music personally, they are good at what they do, but...). Do you all see where they are at presently? What do you think...I find it very interesting, I think it is fascinating commentary on the three themselves as well as the country and the music industry.

I used to buy their albums and enjoyed them very much. I think that they feel like they have been treated poorly. But, when you insult your fan base, crap happens. I don't want anymore of my money going into their pockets.

It is a shame though. They were a good band.

  3. Well the Dixie Chicks spoke out against Bush and the war in Iraq. It's safe to say that by doing so the Dixie Chicks pissed off their fan base.

Did you see any of the latest interviews with them? Wow, a real eye opener. They are no dummies and have never backed off from their stance. The Rush's, Bill's, and Shawn's can say whatever they want but these women REALLY stick to thier guns. They really don't care how they got treated and know that what was said will effect thier fan base. Actually their fan base is 'females from the South' now and quite a lot of them I must say. When this latest CD came out Billboard (corporate owned, tends to be loyal to the right and GWB) did not even put them on the radar, but then they became the #1 in downloads because the conservative leaners would not support them and the 'shifted fan base' were wanting to hear the CD. LOL...now look what has happened in the past few weeks...they are back at the top of the 'traditional' corporate polls...War In Iraq/Not Supporting GWB...no way man, this is all about the $ and they are a cash cow because the fan base has shifted in a weird way...the 'compassionate women country/rock listening base' is bigger than we think folks! LOL...the next 'soccer moms'...LMAO!!! Maybe the Dems should think about this new voting base...huh...LOL?

If it comes to $ or being loyal to a stance from the corporate right, $ always wins, hands down. The Dixie Chicks proved this one and are making more deposits at the local bank teller with their endorsed royalty/residual checks...they won the game in the end...and, in my humble opinion were right about what they had to say in the first place (and had every right to!). I am not a country-rock music fan but GO DIXIE CHICKS (what hotter looking, smarter females could you have on your side?). Ann Coulter is a anorexic beanpole ghoul in comparison (Ann can talk to you about making $ with her book deals too...$ vs morals...$ wins everytime with the right leaning corporate world...she proved that before the DC were even openly critical of Bush and the war).

  5. I would like to comment on the music itself but I am afraid that I would be obtrusive to the concept of this thread. I have no idea what it is about but sofice to say I don't know how you can listen to the actual sounds of both their voices or music. I love a barndance (hodown I think) but they just sound woeful as much as pop country does.

  6. There are very few celebrities who are educated in the average Americans life. Their words have no meaning to me. It's fluff, just like their chosen trade.

  7. Well, lets see...

You're a country music star, dominated by southern red states..mmmm...might be smart for your career not to use your platform to dog the guy your entire audience voted for. They might as well talk against guns and 4x4's.

Well, my point is that they are now doing fine. It is a strange turn of events.

I agree with you. History will show that the Dixie Chicks were RIGHT. The Dixie Chicks believed it was better to stand for something than to just keep your mouth shut and remain popular w/ your so called robotic uninformed fan base. GO DIXIE CHICKS.

  10. Does the name Ed Asner ring a bell? He was Hollywood hot in the 1970's. He decided that because he was a actor he must also be a genius. He turned "Cindy Sheehan" and went off the deep end. When was the last time you saw him??????
These people can't seem to realize that they are basically hookers, or trained dogs. People give them money, they preform.
