Default Sam in Europe

This is Sam and I cannot remember my password. I am traveling in France and Italy and have not experienced any anti americanism or negative response. In fact only friendly and tolerant people of the many questions and confusing moments on my part. When I return I want to post on this forum about European healthcare system and the reaction of the French and Italians to our politics. This has been my first oppurtunity to log on and I am reading those on this forum I most respect. You know who you are!

There is actually a show I caught a small part of that is a parody of American politics that would make anyone laugh. I also want to research a story of American government breaking into the Niger embassy in Rome before the invason of Iraq. I will have my son translate and try to copy and paste that news article.

I will catch up with discussions when home. Ciao Sam

The anti-americanism has really slowed a lot. It used to be you would run into people who see that you are American and just start yelling at you. Now there are of course a few people, but Europeans in general are starting to realize that many americans dislike bush and war just as much as most of Europe.

Now, for the last few weeks it was pretty much put completely on hold because of the world cup. Of course when Bush went to Vienna there was the usual anit-bush headlines in the papers, but the Austrians were too busy hating germany (I'm talking flag burning hatred) to really care about the U.S.

The only anti-foreign sentiment I experienced in the last few weeks was in Slovenia, but the people who yelled at me thought I was german, so it wasn't even anti-american

To what "anti-Americanism" are you referring in Europe? I presume this never occurred in Great Britain.

DC I pulled this old thread up to show my forthrightness in revealing I had two screen names(Sam and Sam-euro)

I am not sure if you addressed this anti Americanism question to me but I never had any anti Americanism directed to me.Our family never hides that we are american..my teen son wore a shirt with an American Flag etc. This past summer I was in France and Italy and never had one negative encounter.People were friendly, helpful and genrous in both countries. I did spend one summer in Paris in The Latin Quarter and cannot remeber one negative encounter. Thailand and Viet Nam are also very friendly for Americans. I have not really experienced anti Americanism anywhere. Protests occur of political figures but I think generally other countries are better at seperating people from their governments.
