The North American Union (From a Canadian perspective)
I have a letter I received recently that I'll post in another thread. I already posted it once but so many people were so wrapped up in their election garbage that few paid attention to it. Perhaps now that the election is over, it may get read, at least by a few.
But, we won't be seeing that civil war you mentioned. Americans just don't have the backbone for it anymore.

I think that Americans must awake themselves and become more informed.

I don't understand why the EU was so controversial for so long; I mean in France, the Maatstricht treaty was signed in 94, making france an official member of the EU, but it was long fought about before getting signed. The US wouldn't even join the League of Nations, President Wilson's baby. Why is it hard for the world to comply to international standards? I think the US could only benefit from a competitor as large as the EU- I think it'll be a long time though before the EU outdoes us on the global economic stage. They are far too socialist to compete just yet.

The problem is that to join any club you have to agree to it's rules and give up a part of your indviduality and sovernity. The US I hope will continue to be the decieder of it's own fate.

I'm aware of that. Obviously, there is a trade off for them if they pay higher taxes. Personally, I don't think that type of system would work here.

I don't want that type of system at all. I am also not for national healthcare. But I am for insurance companys to provide low cost coverage though. Low cost coverage with coupled with what the goverment programs are providing for the poor should be enough, but saying that I am not sure programs are out there.

After the "super-states" are formed, they can join into one.
Yuck! We non-blue-bloods lose (for now...).

I don't think any real American who believes in competition really begrudges the Eu's Rise as an economic power, it's good for business. Creates opportunities both for Americans and Europeans
