Efficiency is what percentage of the sunlight it collects becomes actual electrical energy. It has nothing to do with the cost-effectiveness or the amount of energy it produces. A typical solar panel might produce 600 watts of electrical power per square meter. To get 250 horse power, you'd need a 310 square meter panel. Good luck getting that to work with your car.

This is true statement

The point of this thread is to highlight the enormous waste of energy that a combustion engine produces

and to highlight the continual attack on Photovoltaics as being very inefficient

THis isnt about horsepower or running a car on solar

Its also about using solar thermal technology to produce electricity.

Solar thermal does not require a non-renewable fossil fuel to function, and it doesnt produce operational emissions.

A solar thermal plant can meet base load requirements and with current efficiency a 130km by 130km area will supply 95% of the total electrical power requirements for the USA.

Are you against building say 100 small 1.3km by 1.3km solar thermal plants in the USA so that 95% of your power can be met? and you can become less reliant on foreign oil and fight ilegal wars on behalf of EXXON/?

Or can you only see 19th century industrial fossil fuel combustion as the ONLY option for human civilisation?

the combustion engine has a poorer efficiency than any solar options - didnt seem to stop that from flourishing
