Default The best special features on a DVD movie

First one that comes to mind is the Tom Cruise dialogue in the special features of The Last Samourai then I might add the special features showing how The Mist was made and the Making of Evil Dead was just as interesting and funny as the movie itself.

Ever seen a special feature on a DVD that is better than the movie itself?

I'm not big into special features. I could really care less about supplemental materials on dvds. Chances are there are plenty of articles and reviews columns, blogs, comments, youtube featurettes etc. on the internet already.

Good point. Thing is I doubt you will find an internet based site that gives you a directorial play-by-play of the making of a movie. I mean they do mention a lot of stuff you never hear elsewhere about the making of the movie. The one thing I find rare in DVD commentaries is the sharp criticism of the actor's work, it's mostly a congratulations festival. Who would want to include that type of criticism in a commentary anyways.

I like the special features for the educational content about how movies are made. If someone wants to hear sharp criticism they will be better served by the web of course.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico starring Johnny Depp has a very good special feature "making of" featurette explaining how the movie was made. I don't recall ever reading about it on the web or in magazines or elsewhere, just on the DVD.

The producer shows the process in great detail. I strongly urge any cinema students to examine this featurette closely. The main lesson to be derived from it is how much you can produce with CG and a small private studio and keep costs to a strict minimum.

The producer actually gives the recipe to a dish used in the movie to give more dimension to the scene where Depp shoots the cook for making the recipe so tasty.
