Default Why do you not vote in Elections?

I am in college and doing a research paper. I was looking at why some people don't vote and their reasons. If you vote, then this is not aimed towards you unless you had one of these reasons stop you from voting in the past. Thanks. Please choose the main reason from below by giving the number.

1. Inconvenient methods of voting = better solutions needed like internet or better ways. The polling stations hours are inconvenient for you.
2. Worthless Candidates = Most of these candidates come from wealthy families and don't even know the hardships of life. Why not get some people that have extensive knowledge in other areas such as scientists etc. Most candidates are braindead. The candidates don't meet your needs in some issues.
3. Belief that your vote is only one vote and doesn't really help. Most elections are won by thousands of votes.
4. You believe in voter fraud and therefore the election is rigged.
5. Other reason = Please state the reason

I do not vote anymore because by doing so I am actively supporting a system I feel to be nothing more than an illusion.

jericho74, I vote most of the time. I didn't vote in the last election, because I was new to the area, had not yet made myself familiar with the candidates (my fault totally) and therefore could not vote as an informed citizen.

Other excuses I have heard:

Vote doesn't count. This excuse only works for the presidential vote, and only then if you are in a state whose general ideology is opposite of your own.

Don't want to register because you don't want to serve on jury duty. I have heard this one alot out of Small Business owners. Lame excuse, won't stop them from going out and applying for a drivers license.

Sour_claw, I find this very sad. The only way that the politicians can truly make this country a dictatorship/monarchy is if people give up their right to vote.

Maybe later on I will, Ron Paul could be my next Presidential vote if I do though. Local government is different somewhat, but in general I think if one can even get their name on the balot they are not respectable many times.

If these are the kinds of questions that you are using in your "research" then I predict a bad grade.

I have missed voting once on a local issue that had NO chance of passing and which I didn't support.

The reasons that you give for people not voting are very shallow and merely parrot the most common micconceptions.

I would say that the main reason is that people are lazy and/or content with the way things are going. I mean if things were soooo bad then wouldn't it stand to reason that people would take a couple of minutes to vote at most once a year?

I'd vote every day, issue by issue if I lived in a democracy...

Thank God we are a representative republic. It is ironic that a person who doesn't bother to vote in the current system claims that he/she would vote in a true democracy, or rather a mobocracy.

I do not support democracy (mob rule) either unless you have a very small and highly educated population, and I would find voting more legitimate under that system. Of course with the same media people would vote based on what they were told just like they do now I suppose. Unfortunately I don't have a good way to express my intent here as I seem to have become way too cynical of the establishment and the population in general. It is all an illusion!
