I think that the RR will get behind any candiate that opposes a Clinton/Obama ticket. I don't beleive that they will stay home on a presidental election. Also the Republicans are trying to find their way back to being Republicans again and that is good for the nation.

>>>I can't back Clinton, either. I'll back any candidate (Rep or Dem) who isn't tied into AIPAC/Neocon cash (that excludes Hillary and "Udi" right off the bat). I want my country back free and clear of Muslim and Jewish radicals. AND Christian radicals for that matter.

Well, you can move to an unpopulated island and set up your own goverment. If that is not an option, then campaing for the candiate that closest matches your ideas.

>>>There are still some folks out there who aren't tied into AIPAC. To name a couple Reps, Hagel and Buchanan come to mind (I'd love to see a slightly more liberal Buchanan-type get into the race). I don't believe Edwards or Richardson are tied in, either.

A slightly more liberal Buchanan? Is that like a slightly more conservative Kucinich?
Here's the latest Rasmussen tracking poll on the Republican race:
Rasmussen
Giuliani 33%
McCain 17%
Gingrich 13%
Romney 10%
Brownback 3%
Hagel 2%
Huckabee 1%
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Poli...ialPrimary.htm
Some interesting internals from that same poll:
Quote:
Most voters in Republican Primaries are politically conservative.
Among those who consider themselves Very Conservative, Giuliani attracts 24% of the vote, Gingrich 23% and McCain is the third choice at 19%.
Among those who are Somewhat Conservative, it’s Giuliani 34% McCain 15% and Gingrich 14%.
Self-identified moderates likely to participate in the Primary favor Giuliani over McCain 41% to 18%.
|
So even among the most conservative group of Republican primary voters, Giuliani still wins!
McCain is pretty much toast despite being in second place, because he's too low on money and is having trouble raising more.

Verrry interesting stuff!

The only reason Moderate Republicans are putting up those numbers is because no true Conservative has made a move yet. Republicans want a Reagan, we will hold our nose, vote for McCain or Guliani and then puke in disgust when the other choice is Obama or Hillary. If a true Conservative runs, a true Conservative wins.

That's kinda true. Look how well Gingrich is doing without even being in the race! But Gingrich is a polarizing figure, with high negatives to match his positives, and though he could win the nomination, he'd have a very hard time winning the general election. Republicans could definitely use a Reagan right about now, but we don't have one.

Izdaari & Soody, is there a real conservative even running at this point? I am not sure right now if a real coservitive that has close ties to the relegious right could win a national election right now.

Brownback, Hagel and Huckabee are real conservatives, though Hagel is anti-war. Gingrich is a real conservative, and probably will run, though he hasn't announced yet. Of those four, only Gingrich is showing the popularity to be able to challenge Giuliani for the nomination. I can't really see any of them winning the general election, though that disappoints me because I love the heck out of Gingrich, and he would be my first choice if I thought he could win.
