McCain FOS
This guy is so full of it...
I personally got a letter from McCain's office over a year ago stating how we need to support the war and the decisions made (yes, I had written him). So where was he when all the bad decisions were being made? McCain does not need to be our next president. He is a pandering ass

B]McCain calls Rumsfeld one of the worst[/b]
Richmond Times-Dispatch Feb 12, 2007
Organizing for a presidential campaign in Virginia, Arizona Sen. John McCain described former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld as "one of the worst secretaries of defense" in history.
McCain was in Richmond today to meet with some leading members of the business community to begin organizing his exploratory committee in Virginia. He is one of several Republicans seeking the nomination to run for President in 2008.
McCain, whose presidential bid foundered in Virginia in 2000 when he lost a GOP primary to George W. Bush, said "no Republican can take Virginia for granted" anymore, after Democratic victories in the U.S. Senate race last year and the gubernatorial race in 2005.
McCain has placed his presidential bets on the war in Iraq. He supports an increase of troops there.
"If we leave because we are forced out, there will be chaos and genocide," McCain said in a brief interview.

I find it hilarious that so many people completely overlooked and are overlooking the fact that he has ALWAYS been a conservative.
He hasn't changed his positions that much.
I think that in your case C'sM you might have been hoodwinked and that is why you currently are demonstrating so much antipathy.
However; I AM disappointed by him. McCain-Feingold is the primary reason.
But don't forget the Keating Savings and Loan scandal. He was knee deep in that crap and was ONE of the Keating 5.

I know some liberals were some how mistaken to believe McCain was liberal...I never thought that. However I always thought he had good character. I agree CM...He has really disappointed me in his lack of leadership on Iraq and pandering for votes on social issues that he does not believe in.
I saw Romney being interviewed by Stephanopolis last Sun. AM...He seemed solid and articulate. They did play a clip of him stating he believed in civil unions/pro choice in 1999 and he now states he has changed his mind on those issues. He handled the issue of his faith very well...with assurances of a firm belief in seperation of church and state.

I am not sure what you find hilarious, I have not denied McCain being a conservative. I am talking about his weak minded pandering, you have missed the point here. Basically you have just said dishonesty and pandering are core conservative values? Boy, I sure hope not. Take John Danforth, that is the contemporary model of Republican conservative values that date more to TR or Abe Lincoln.
No, I have not overlooked these things. The Keating/banking/deregulation situation did put many doubts in my head about him and yes he did not follow through on campaign finance reform at the level he suckered people into thinking.
For a guy who served his country so bravely with such galantry and endured an unbelievable hardship he has become a two-faced jerk. Republicans should be ashamed if they nominate him for the party ticket.

AYFR, you have hit it right on the nail. McCain should be ashamed of himself.
I know you personally have problems with this war and I do too, this administration really pooch-screwed the whole thing. Again, I had written several Senators to inclued the two from this state and my home state of CA...and John McCain. McCain sent back this BS, sychophant letter saying we should blindly support this administration and war...this was over a year ago, I have that letter in my files here at home. And I repeat, this ass-wipe (I can't put it any other way) now tries to say that Rumsfeld was one of the worst S of Defense we have ever had and Rummy totally mismanaged the war. What a total f***face McCain is. So Senator...
You never protested on how Rumsfeld was managing things while Rummy was in that position? You wait until the guy gets fired? You just let more troops die for a mismanaged cause all for your politics?
McCain represents the height of hypocricy and absolute political pandering. I could not believe this report when I heard it on the BBC tonight, he had said this about Rumsfeld after the fact.

McCain's Mea Culpa on this war and Rummy alone deserves this rhetoric and reaction.

McCain is also a traitor due to his involvement in the Missing Service Personnel Act.
He turned his back on the POW's and therefore his country
This on top of what you stated.
Quote:
John McCain's legislative actions drew severe criticism from POW/MIA families when he was a member of the Senate Select Committee for POW and MIA affairs. In 1991, Congress passed the Missing Service Personnel Act, which, among other things, made it a crime for any public official to deliberately withhold, destroy or cover up information relating to missing soldiers.
