Default Black voters should vote Obama b/c he is black

If Obama is elected it would mark the beginning of a new era for black people in america. They owe it to themselves! After all, Barack Obama is a product of what black leaders throughout american history have fought for and in some cases died for in order to ensure equality. He's proof that all of their efforts succeeded, and that black people can make it to the top. Therefore, I think that there is legitimacy in black voters voting for Obama because he is black.

As a Black male, I couldn't disagree more. My ancestors didn't fight and die for us to blindly choose someone just because he's Black. If Alan Keyes was running, I would campaign so hard against him. We should vote for Obama because his policies will help all people do better. We should vote for Obama because he will do more to unite the country than any president since Lincoln. But we should not vote for Obama just because he is Black and so are we.

With that logic, whites should vote for McCain. Why even bother with policies, agendas, etc.? Just vote based on skin color. You are a moron.

We shouldn't turn a blind eye to race during this election. I think it has and still is playing a big role in this race. There are thousands of people who will not vote for Obama simply because he is black, as well as, thousands who will not vote for McCain simply because he is white. But, I don't think that they cancel out each other. I think we're going to have more people voting for Obama because he is black, than we'll have voting for McCain because he is white. This is clearly an Obama advantage so I say why not embrace it.

See, I disagree. We'll have a lot of Black people voting for Obama because McCain voted against MLK Day and voiced support for the confederate flag in SC. The Democrats could've run anyone from their primary and they would get 90%+ among Black voters. And I certainly disagree that it will be a net plus. If that was the case, we would have Black politicians all over the place. Historically, it has been much more of a hindrance than an assistance to be a Black candidate.

Ok, I have a question for you. I am neither black, nor white (btw).

I understand the problem with the confederate flag, to a certain extent. I understand that many whites ues it to promote racism, and I find that wrong. But as a black man, isn't that flag part of your history? To me, it represents everything that was overcome. But, like I said, I am neither black, nor white...

Joe....whether you are black or white is not important...whats important is the fact that you are a complete idiot.

The Black leaders throughout history fought against exactly what your promoting.....people basing their votes on skin color........and only skin color.... a disgrace to any race...

thats the dumbest thing ive ever read, so he should be proud of the flag that people used to promote racism and since black people were treated as dogs by the people who had such flags he should be honored?

Yes, it's a part of our history much in the same way that a Swastika is part of Jewish history. It represents not what was overcome but what we went through, and there's a real difference. The fact that even today, I can go to certain parts of this country and have that flag shown to me as a threatening symbol is enough to make me not want it on a statehouse. Regardless, his voting record on MLK is enough to turn off way more than 90% of Black voters. That to us is like voting against Washington's birthday being a holiday.
