Most people that know McCain well say that when he gets involved in a political battle, he has to demonize his opponent in order to get worked up. It's not unusual for him to avoid eye contact or be uncomfortable, considering he needs to do so in order to get into the debate.

It is disturbing, however. How would he handle Putin if he can't even make eye contact with his good friend, the Senator from Illinois?
