The American economy lost 159,000 jobs in September, the worst month of retrenchment in five years, the government reported on Friday, enhancing fears that an already pronounced downturn had entered a more painful stage that could last well into next year.

Employment has diminished for nine consecutive months, resulting in the elimination of 760,000 jobs, according to the Labor Department report.

He is nuts if he's talking about good workers...jeez it would be nice to find workers who can pass their f*cking pre-employment drug test. Hard to find good workers in Ohio (don't want to broad brush) that are under 35. Pity that.

Where and why are we losing jobs in America? And are you saying those working presently in America are not quality workers?

You are broad brushing though.

You know the military drug tests and recruits are under 35 . Perhaps its the nature of the work that is attracting the druggies not the youth.

Just saying .

badmutha are you ever right about anything? Minimum wage did not go up until July 2008. That was three months ago so you are factually incorrect. Actually less than 3 months ago because it happened on July 24th. So to be accurate 2 months and 13 days ago.

Labor Law Center Blog Minimum Wage

On January 1, 2008, Ohio raised its state minimum wage by 15 cents from $6.85 to $7.00 per hour. Tipped workers will receive a minimum wage of $3.50 per hour.

Businesses with annual gross earnings of less than $255,000, however, are still covered by the federal minimum wage of $5.85, rather than the state wage of $7.00.

On July 24, 2008, the federal minimum wage is slated to increase to $6.55, so companies earning less than $255,000 will then be required employees the new federal rate.

And for your information badmutha 28 states have had laws for some time making minimum wage higher than the federal minimum wage.

Green - States with minimum wage rates higher than the Federal
U.S. Department of Labor - Employment Standards Administration (ESA) - Wage and Hour Division (WHD) - Minimum Wage Laws in the States - January 1, 2008

Now as anybody can see the states with higher minimum wages than the federal are certainly not hot bed centers of unemployment.

or at least they weren't until Bush crashed the economy . Who knows what will happen with employment in the future , one thing is for certain we are looking at double digit unemployment by spring 09 thanks to Bush and his extreme Reaganomics policies.

You know badmutha that is the problem with you Republican you'll believe anything you hear from talking head pundits like Hannity and Rush . If your favorite neo con politician says it , it must be true. Well, badmutha you really should try to educate yourself because people like you have so long been fooled into voting for people that want to take the bread right out of your mouth that you have near ruined this country. Its people like you that are so uninformed , believing every stupid thing you hear , truth be damned; that have let them nearly bankrupt this country.

Hope your happy badmutha you got your way, and America is nearly ruined.

Where? Apparently everywhere.

Why? You tell me...oh, and you might want to clue McCain in on it too.

Indeed, those that still have jobs are quality workers...well, at least good quantity workers...apparently production is on the rise which is a good thing for the bosses who make increasingly more money off of the workers that are left.

I don't recall the exact number but it's something like 60 or 80 thousand new jobs per month are needed just to keep up with the number of new people reaching work force age...that's fundamental.

GM Lordstown, construction trades, etc. I'm talking about blue collar...but I would bet whaite collar is similar. The point is that there was a time when "work was work", and now it is as you say "the nature of the work". Again, pity that.
