None of these polls is a "gold standard" some have a better reputation than others but even that can change from election to election. I prefer the tracking polls as they are done on a three-day rolling average basis but it's best to go to a site like
RCP which averages all the numbers out.
Two points are clear...first, the USA Today/Gallup poll giving McCain a 10% lead was an outlier. Of the other 7 major polls 6 have the race within 2% one way or the other. Second, McCain's bounce is over.
