That is true. It's also an incredibly beautiful place. It is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. It's hard to put in simple words the beauty of that continent or the underlying sadness that is in it as well.

I lived in various parts of Africa while I was in the peace corps. The place is fuckin' depressing. Especially if you have anything to do with the people. But, I was also very inspired at the same time. Africa is a place where you find out what you are made of. The people take no shit, but also offer kindness in a place that is so hateful. When I was in the corps, I remember thinking it was the land of Irony. A confusing place....
