Honestly, I believe that all schools should be required to offer religion/comparative religion classes as well as culture oriented classes. But, whatever, apparently ignorance is best for the students.

I have no problem with a "History of Human Religion" which would involve all know religions and their impact both good and (in my opinion) bad on human kind.

If a school wants to offer a bible class as an elective, whats the problem? If you don't want your kids to take it don't sign up for it; it should be a local decision. Like everything else lets take god out of everything, hell you can't even say the pledge of allegiance in the class room anymore, or prayer before a ball game. WHy?? Because god forbid we offend an athiest or even better an imigrant. All of which were allowed 20 yrs ago, when by the way I don't recall some kids shooting people at schools.

As strange as it may seem to most of you, I agree, this should not be taught in Public school, not even as an elective. Having gotten to know more teachers in my lifetime than I ever cared to know, I don't want some anti-Christ teacher misquoting the Bible and distorting the truth it contains.
There are plenty of church functions for kids and after school groups if they're interested in learning about Christianity.

I agree with that, Nazi. But, you're always going to have one teacher who can't stay neutral.

I agree. I put up with learning evolution in science class, and it helps me understand where people who believe that are coming from and helps me know how to refute that with Scripture. As long as it's an elective and not a requirement, there is no harm in offering classes on different religions. Like it or not, religion has had a huge influence over people throughout history. It was the reason America was populated. It has caused wars. It is a good thing to learn and to relate to.

They can learn about fables outside of school or go to a private school. I am afraid of Lufkin, TX (CHURCH AND CHICKEN FRIED STEAK) Let's all hang out at the Super Wal-Mart then hit the Dairy Queen.
GO DYNAMO!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably, historically religion was used as a tool of oppression. Keep the people illiterate, claim divine right to rule, Scientists were heretics. Religion was used to control, now it is a business, BIG $$$$$$$
