Default NASA sucks.

Quote:
Russia, China aim for Red Planet
China will launch a joint mission with Russia to Mars, a "milestone" in space co-operation between the two countries. The agreement was signed during a three-day visit to Russia by China's president Hu Jintao.
The move follows pledges by Moscow to work more closely with the Chinese on missions to Mars and the Moon.
It's very sad how we have fallen so far behind.

This is what happens when kids are kept stupid and go off to work before getting a masters or doctorate. Not to mention all those kids who were too stupid to avoid the military. We fall further and further behind until all are is a service economy.

In light of it, we could drive from TX to FL in a diaper!

But, I do agree. The US is dumbing down and the public school our kids are attending are proof of that and it's mostly composed of kids from military intelligence parents. Oxymoron. Sorry.

I think the problem is mostly that of attitude. Being intense in what you love for work isn't considered cool. How many people do you know that love their profession to the point of constantly talking and trying to improve what they do? Not many in this country...

>>>That's what happens when we let people with absolutely no vision run this country. Corporatists and Republicans just don't have the right DNA.

Nah, it has nothing to do with NASA. As poor as the American education system is in some areas it is still better than the Chinese or the Russians. When you talk about NASA and organizations like that you are just looking at the best and the brightest. It wouldn't really matter if 95% of the country were ignorant - it still wouldn't affect the best students who go onto places like NASA. I recently read that the average Chinese adult has a fourth grade knowledge of science - but big deal - as long as they have people who are brilliant it doesn't really matter. It doesn't take millions of people to make a space program work, so you don't need a million geniuses working on a project.

Or those of us who left $80,000 more a year to go back to teaching becuase wre couldn't find people who could use common sense ?

I LOVE my job so much so that I spend most of my holidays at school.

My methods are not always PC, and I'm pretty OLD SCHOOL, but at least most of my kids now have better common sense then most adults that teach them other subjects.

( but theres always that 2% that believe, and tell me that I'm the biggest asshole who walked the face of the earth )

That's great that you have the fire. I wished more people believed in helping and getting in to what they do.

the space race has been a exercise in America doing laps around the rest of the world when you compare nasa to other space agency's accomplishments .
let China and Russia take the reign for a while and enjoy the human achievement of pushing further into space, granted I am for a strong space program , but I am a backer of international contribution to taking space exploration to new and exciting places.
