Never meant it that you were doing anything wrong, maybe it came out wrong. You were teaching 13-14 year olds and that is how you are around them is what I meant. I wouldn't accuse anyone of what you are thinking. i apologize if you took it that way, it was not meant to be, just miscommunication.
My daytime routine will stay the same because like I said, I don't have class for atleast two hours a day. The only time I get those hours taken away is if we are out of subs or if I just cover for someone for a while.
Take this anyway you want, but I really want you to find out how your school's SS classes are run. Like I said, they are lucky if it is not the standard worksheet/video. I think it is more the norm than what you might think. And I don't think it serves anyone.
I will agree that I was exagerating when I said most teachers. But I think the consistently least covered or cared about topic is social studies, and while I will agree that it is maybe the least important of the four core subjects for students to reach goals (ie good job/career). I think that many of the SS teachers I have worked with simply use time killing activities that do not encourage any of the students to actually think, just recite.
On unions, I don't have a problem with the unions other than solely protecting the teacher. I suppose that since it is the teachers who pay the dues that it makes sense. I don't have a problem with the unions not helping the studetns specifically, as long as they are not hurting them with their policies or agenda either. If there was a way to make the teachers unions non-political it would be better, but I don't think that is possible.
I was under the impression the topic was school vouchers.
