Hear, hear. I'm a Montessori preschool teacher, and we believe in EXACTLY that. Unfortunately, the push for "standards" means that we are being told exactly what to teach and even WHEN to teach it. So much for following the child! Our lessons are all hands-on works, individual or small-group lessons, and are geared to the child's current ability, not where someone somewhere else thinks the child (whole class) should be. And I'm lucky, teaching preschool; we've got much more leeway than the older grades.

I park in the teacher parking cause fuck em, they don't pay for this shit, why do they always get the better parking?

Teachers rule students? You crack me up. Teachers have very little authority.

OH, by the way, I gross about 30% more than teachers even though I work a full year, not half. I also pay more in taxes (self employment tax) and nobodies paying my retirement or get group insurance.... I'm not mad at my situation, but instead mad at how easy the government throws away the taxes I pay! Once again, government jobs are in desparate need of being regulated like the private sector.

Yes...we all know that teaching is just like working a factory job. Get the raw material and crank out a finished product.
Piece of cake. A child doesn't learn...it's ALL the teacher's fault.

Teachers earn more than enough money, the problem is the hours they are expected to work - without pay.
For example, a teacher must mark exams at home or while on holidays, and they are not paid for this. They must come in early to plan the days lesson, and they are not paid for this as the day has not 'officially' begun.
A teacher must correct students work and plan lessons on a Public Holiday, and during school holidays, much of the teachers time is spent planning the following semester.
I don't have a problem with their wages, what I have a problem with is the extra hours they are expected to put in, without payment.

I defy anyone to show that a professional with an equivalent education to what is required of a beginning teacher is willing to work for the same pay...same hours...same lack of control of the final product.

It is such a shame that teachers are ripped out of their homes and forced to sign contracts to teach. No other profession (except maybe police officers) are actually forced to take these jobs, only teachers (and maybe police officers)
Its also a crime that teachers are told they will make $100,000.00 per year (along with police officers) but when they get their first paycheck they find its only for $250.00 per week. How cruel is that. We should put a stop to this and force school districts to stop lying to teachers about thier hours, duties and pay (along with police officers) (oh yeah, and nurses, they are another lied to profession)

Oh get off your high horse, a BA in Education is HARDLY an education....
As for the entry level pay, very typical for union shops. I would suggest your anger is misdirected.

Teachers should be forced to work in their off time to help the taxpayers.
It's only fair.
