That's right. You think most teachers are pedophiles.

Of course, having read your posts, I can see how much you really bore down in school.

There is a Teacher pedophile epidemic in America. The longer it is ignored, the less credibility public schools will have.
Teachers need to give back to the community.

If they do they get paid for it. I know a few teachers don't work at all. I have a friend, a railroad buff who spends his summers riding trains. I also know many work at summer schools or jobs outside of the educational field. I also know that most who work summer school or other educational related jobs are paid extra for that.

The argument to me returns to the fact those who enter the teaching profession know what the income will be and willingly choose to become teachers. $40,000.00 a year is not a bad income and since many are married women that brings the household income up quite a bit.

Think you are underpaid? Choose another profession.

No one should be forced to work for free. That is the definition of slavery and no one should be a slave to anybody for any reason. Businesses pay school taxes to pay for the teachers when they are working. The teachers do not owe the business any "refund".

Seems to me that far too many of them already know enough and don't need any further instruction on how to abuse kids.

2 things to remember about most but not all teachers...

1. Look at the number of required work days per year. In my state it's 181 days which is less than 1/2 the year.

2. Look at the teachers parking lots at schools to see what time most cars come and leave and notice the shorter than average work day compared to yourself.

This adds up to be a *Part time job* compared to most people punching a clock on an annual basis. That is really NICE money for a part time job and they even get fabulous benefits!

You couldn't pay me ENOUGH to be a teacher. What a shitty job that is.

Teachers are getting paid for a full time job and they should work full time.

Good question.

I spent a lot of time in the summer preparing for the upcoming school year.

I don't know about Tennessee Nate, but WI has pretty high standards for teachers.

You have real issues about teachers and sex abuse. The majority are good folks. Quit generalizing.

You are correct, George. I challenge anyone to teach one full school year and let me know if you didn't need the summer off to re-coup.

All states are probably different, but in my school district, the teachers work a lot of hours during the school year. I know very few that work a 40 hour work week.

I quit teaching full-time when my first child was born. I've been teaching part-time (only two nights a week) for the past 5 years. I will probably never go back to teaching full-time because of the lack of respect from the children and parents. Also, as you can see from this thread, many of you have little good to say about teachers.

I never had an issue with the pay/benefits, but you must remember it is very costly to maintain your licensure and obtain your masters. This all comes out of the teacher's pocket, and the compensation on the pay ladder usually does not match what you spent.

Many good teachers have left the profession and have joined the business world where they receive much more respect. They gladly trade in the vacation time for a less stressful job where they are valued.

This argument is starting from a bad place. Teachers don't DO enough, thats the fucking problem. They mean to tell us that if we paid them more money, they'd be better teachers? How about proving that first, be a good teacher, and then we'll give you more money when you've earned it like everyone else.
