Question Can prep school make your kid rich?

"There's no question that some of America's great achievers have gone to exclusive prep schools, although whether the schools can claim credit for their students' achievements is debatable. Obviously, there are also plenty of public-school graduates who have gone on to great success. But it does bring up a point: Does being around great wealth inspire others, especially those without it, to reach greater heights?"

Some people may be inspired by such an environment, but many will be demoralized by it. Seeing only things they do not believe themselves capable of obtaining. It depends on what they have been told their whole life. Such as: "You can be anything you want to be." OR "You can only be what others will let you be."

I came from a modest upbringing and was always taught "you can be anything you want to be" and we've instilled it in our children.

It is the network of connections one makes at prep school.

I agree, but if you read the article it also talks about how the kids of modest upbringing are exposed to the ultra rich. They know there are disparities, but inspire to enjoy life as they do. I watched a VH1 show last night about Heiresses. It's incredible how some people live. If you are given the opportunity to live like that, go for it.

I've seen shows like that. Those people are completely out of touch with the real world. If I won the lottery, I would never live like that.

One heiress spends $1m a year on clothes, alone. Geez. They could get the US out of debt if she recycled her clothes.

I think its more of a social thinking thing: prep schools look good. thus interships and jobs love to see them on resumes. interships also improve resume when the student is done with school.
this also has to do with networking. which is seriously very important.
