That was the point, the kid was mentally unstable, he would have obtained the weapons from any one of a number of sources, its proven, if someone has mayhem on their mind nothing will stop them. This nation was built upon and exists today primarily because of their policy of "peace though strength". And its also proven that the "predators" of this world take advantage of the weak and "defenseless". But, its senseless to argue the point that if "anyone" would have faced this kid down before he fired the first shot, the many lives that were lost needlessly that day would have never been lost. That's exactly what it took...after the fact. In today's society, any instructor that had the courage to stand up to this kid and take his life probably would have served time themselves. BD

It seems if everyone followed the rules, there would be no need for the question presented by this poll in the first place.

That's why we have the American Legal system of jurisprudence. When it is allowed to work correctly and justly punish any offenders of the public peace and well being by example, there is none better on the face of the earth. If "everyone" followed the rules there indeed would be no criminals and we would be living in paradise on earth. But until such time, I shall defend both my right to life and protection of my family and property that are under my charge. When my weapons that allow such defense are gone, so shall my last breath have escaped my flesh. As my pappy used to say, "I'm gett'en to old to run and to slow to fight, and that leaves only one choice, choose wisely before you challenge me." BD

I am an avid gun rights person but this is the best of all solutions and although it would not completely stop something like this from happening it would go a long enough way that we would not need guns on our school ground at all. It is a societal problem that has stemed from kids growing up without their parents or without the guidence and supervision of their parents. Or parents that want to be their kids buddy instead of the teacher and diciplinarian. Another major cause is all the promotion of disrespect , violance etc. etc. that plagues every aspect of society now. And worst of all our leaders and sports figures break laws right in our faces now and do not get punished as we would. It is a total breakdown in our society that has brought this about and having a gun on campus could take out the immediate threat it does not go to fixing the actual problem.

The Principal should be the only person on a campus certified to carry a gun (Elementary, junior high, high school).
The Principal should be licensed and held accountable for protecting the students from a shooter.
Students in college should be allowed to carry a gun after they are certified and their medical records have been examined.

Teachers are predators and should be treated as such.

I was tied between the first one and allowing retired police./military officers to have guns,.

I went with the latter because you never know when someone could bring a gun to school or considering some campuses are open a non-student could bring a weapon in. and most police officers have some experience with negociation and while I'd hope they'd never have to fire a gun while on campus, I understand the potential assistance that can be lent when off duty police monitor schools

I do however only worry about these peopel getting to tough with students. I had a cop who worked in my high school and made a habit out of putting his hands no students. I suppose he thought they were akin to inmates
