Default Him are a high school graduate.

I am disgusted by the radical inhuman monsters turned out by evil madrassas. They do, however, point out just how a child can be taught to believe religious nonsense. Terrible, anti-social, bigoted and evil nonsense. Okay. It's a fact. It can be done.

Now why is it that our American educational system, from kindergarten to 12th grade, has so much troubler turning out graduates that can't read their own diplomas? We have poured money on the problem to the point that we have proven that it is not the problem. Okay. What is?

(1) Qualified, college educated teachers should be paid wages that are competitive with other vocations.

(2) Tenure should be dropped as a stupid relic of the past.

(3) Teacher's Unions have ruined the process of education and should be replaced by standards, values, and competition.

(4) A teacher's object is not to teach - but rather to increase their student's knowledge.

(5) A teacher's measure of success must be determined by appropriate grade level student testing.

(6) No student should be advanced to the next grade level without passing.

(7) Beginning in 4th grade, all teaching must be done in ENGLISH only.

(8) From Kindergarten thru 3rd grade non-English speaking children must undergo instruction in the English language.

These steps are far from a perfect start - but isn't it time we fixed our badly broken educational system?

What might you suggest?

With other graduate level professionals.

Tenure is simply the removal of the probationary period after TWO years. What other profession has a TWO year probationary period?

Teachers' Unions are a necessary protection for teachers and a scapegoat for those who don't really want to help public education, but want to gut it.

A teacher's job is to teach the material...a student's job is to learn the material. A teacher can bring that student to the education, but the student must take an active role...unfortunately, many do not.

All professionals should have their job performance measured by factors out of their control.

Agreed...until you end up with 16 year old 4th graders.

Not all non-English speaking students show up in kindergarten.

They do.

To work on the teachers/educational system is simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The problem is with the students and their parents.

See above. How do we make students and parents step up and do their part?

(1) Qualified, college educated teachers should be paid wages that are competitive with other vocations.

tenure helps teachers try new methods of teaching because they can't be fired as easily. schools today like their procedures and not actual learning. I've had many tenured teachers try new things- against school policies- and we've done better than other classes. non-tenured teachers have explained that they could never try this.

(3) Teacher's Unions have ruined the process of education and should be replaced by standards, values, and competition.
unions are needed. but better communication and for unions, school boards, teachers, students and parents to agree to work together

(4) A teacher's object is not to teach - but rather to increase their student's knowledge.
agreed. too often we worry about test result, using up th whole class time, and other things that may not actual increase knowledge. anyone can study for a test and forget everything the next day or sit in a room not learning for 50 minutes, while others learn more in 20.

(5) A teacher's measure of success must be determined by appropriate grade level student testing.
not fair to teachers with students who refuse to do work

(6) No student should be advanced to the next grade level without passing.
this is especially true for jocks

(7) Beginning in 4th grade, all teaching must be done in ENGLISH only.

we should make the school environment better, its hard to learn when there are 50 unnessacary rules and students who disrupt others

Cool

. As a Senior Citizen I am writing to you about General Topic. Greetings: I am concerned that too narrow a view of the options for education is being used. In the past there have been ideas for reform that addressed the need for an adjusted school year; particular in the lower grades. It has been known for many years that skills and information needs be reinforced within a specific length of time or it will not be set in long term memory. That is especially true for children and their studies. Educational psychologists know that the summer vacation is beyond that retention period for most children. That requires One fourth of the next school year is remedial study to reinforce last year's material. Why has that knowledge about memory retention not been used to adjust the school year to negate the loss during summer vacation? With a forty one week session the attitudes, study habits, and knowledge would be more easily maintained. It would also enhance retention of teachers by deleting the need for so many to seek summer jobs to get by. If our most important product truly is our children, teacher pay should reflect it and we would not have to import people with skills needed today to supply industry? For obvious reasons there should be a choice of coed schools or single gender schools. Fewer disruption problems, fewer hormone problems, better learning environment, and better safety. would be the benefit for students and parents who chose single gender schools. better control of class rooms would be possible also. It would not require any more schools and future schools would not have to have double plumbing facilities in most schools, which would be more economically feasible. It is time for real reform, not just throwing money at it and wringing our hands at accountability tests on students who need more individual attention not tests.

“Problem, no motivation to study”
By David H. Marshall

The problem is a motivational problem. You must first realize that there are consequences involved that will be with you for the rest of your life.

Make a list of the ways you think your not studying can and will effect your quality of the rest of your life. Think of the lack of choices you will have In the level of creature comfort you will be able to achieve. That would also include the choices of spouse you could attract. Your financial status would be greatly diminished with a second rate education. Your self esteem will cause you to resent your self, possibly hate yourself for the chances you throw away to better yourself.

It is your choice to become a stump watching trivia and playing video games. You will be the one to pay the consequences for such a choice, and it is a choice simply made by changing, or by doing nothing about your perceived problem with your self.

You as an individual must do this for yourself. It is not necessary to be a study freak to succeed, an adjustment in your time management is needed. Set rules for your self that are not so strict that they have no chance to succeed. A most important rule, is never to break your own rules. The punishment for that is in distrusting yourself and hating yourself for it. You can never get away from your self so the consequences for that are yours for life.

Bottom line; choices you make now are choices you must live with, along with the what those choices bring with them into the rest of your life.
