BTW...your comment, as always, was so helpful. Thank you.
start by looking up the word imagine, once you understand that you might get the poster's point

I do think that parents should have to ensure their child learning at home are at the same level (or higher) than kids who go to school. often times you find home school kids who don't know what they should according to their grade level.
well said wolf.

People should be allowed to home school their kids as long as that does not mean they are leaving them ignorant and I know home schoolers who don't teach their kids hardly anything.

They say they will not sit still to learn.

In that a recent survey showed that even in Sacramento, a full 33% of the students don't graduate from High School (and mind you Sacramento was in the top three for graduating students), I doubt that it would be hard for home school to match the numbers of public schools out here.

Many who are home schooled, are above their grade level.

I have a friend who is a stay at home mom, she's an attorney and works from home, she decided to home school her kids and they are doing great. One has skipped two grades, (though I know this isn't the norm). I think parents should be able to home school, it should be monitored - but it should forever be an option.

it seems to me that when kids are homeschooled they are either ahead or behind.
everyone I've heard of who was homeschooled was either way ahead or way behind.

I think there should be more of those home-school groups where home-schooling familes meet up for field trips. its not good for kids to miss social education

I agree with that 100%. I think they do that now in FL. They also have group teaching, where all the parents gather at one house or another.

I think it should be monitored in some way -who's to say some kid isn't going to school because the parents are mistreating the child. That's the biggest concern I have.

very true. one of the easiest ways abuse is found is by a teacher or school nurse noticing something off with a student.

did you happen to see that one law and order; SVU episode?
the mother was homeschooling her sons and not caring for them. they asked another home-school mother who knew the family why they home-schooled.
she said she did it because she didn't like public school but couldn't afford private school for her daughter. but that the other mother home-schooled so she could control her children without any interference.

its scary to think about what would happen if a smart enough child-abusing parent began to home-school their children.... how could the kid ever reach out for help or have help reach out to them?
