My father and I fought bitterly over my future ,he wanted me to chase the careers he was interested in me doing. I dropped out of college ,Joined Air Force
had a nervous breakdown ,got disability retirement. turned out to be my brass parachute,ha ha ha. I can't look back because it makes me even crazier.
Every new generation of twentysomethings is real disturbing to observe now.
there always the same banal looking bunch just waiting to get their throats cut. I'd pay good money to see any of them develop an original thought in their head.
Cookie cutter people doing the same cookie cutter shit because that is all the government run schools crank out. When life kicked my ass at 20 it did me a huge favor. Uncle Sam looks after me 100% because he screwed my life up 100% Makes bitching about govt. more fun because I get to protect fellow citizens from enemies within instead of without.
I want more education I read on my own. I may even have to cure my own form of cancer because I know fucking dumb asses at VA can't help me.

I have invested not only my time, but money into games, computers, tudoring, and state programs.. not to mention doctors, and medication. This kid can run circles against kids his age when it comes to sports, and/or mechanical things..but books...no way. We as a last attempt bribed him with a new dirt bike.....trust me, if he could have mastered it....he would have.
So, although I understand what you are saying, blaming the parents for this is an insult. My daughters do well in school and plan on going to college. If what you say is true, then all of my kids would be dropping out.

Not surprisingly, you missed my point completely. Please point to where I said educating my children was easy. There was no 'luck' involved.
Not surprisingly again, you seem to think a child's education ends when they graduate from school.
It's apparent yours did...

We don't all go off and do the same jobs, and we aren't expected to learn everyone else's job. I don't know how to replace the engine in my car, and I wouldn't dream of performing surgery on anyone soon...those aren't fields I am interested in...so you couldn't have paid me to learn them. We all have interests and passions to learn something.

I make references to things in my posts that someone with a well rounded education would be aware of....you don't seem to know what I'm talking about.
Case in point...you have no idea what a black arm band represents.
That is the purpose of a well rounded education...so you don't appear a DOLT in polite conversation.
(Also, a lack of a well-rounded education is usually indicated by the frequent use of hyperbole)

I had a hyperbole once but it got too big so I had to sell it

I think that they do need exposure in school. But really what were you exposed to in K-12 that helped get you into your field of work?
As far as curiosity.... if you look at the numbers of kids dropping out of school, couriosity is the last thing they appear to have in school. However, if we stopped treated their report card as a sign of intelligence...and we stopped forcing them to memorize garbage that they are not interested in and started focusing on what get's them learning and wanting to learn.... they just might be there long enough to be curious. The plus side is for everyone. I think schools would be sending out better educated kids able to continue focusing on a career. The crime rate would most likely go down, since they actually are working toward a goal instead of a life of crime. The amount of people in low payinging jobs and/or no jobs at all would drop...allowing the working class to stop paying so much into the welfare abuse system.
Like I said, I speak from experience. I have been able to make a great salary and holding up my end of the family business by learning Accounting. I didn't get that skill from getting a degree and I had NO plans of ever walking into a college. I failed Algebra again and again... I learned it on the job and I went back to night school at the junior college. I would have NEVER done that if I didn't get that break. But think of how many people don't get that break.
***also...at 35 I decided to go back to school. I went for my testing, got my classes, books...etc... I swear to you the first day I walked in and sat down it all went blank. College General Ed. is just not in the cards for everyone - And I stand behind my words - I don't need to know how do disect a sentence to be a good accountant.
