Good luck stopping that!
It has been evident for many years that the single gender schools, not mentioning any names, put out a superior education. Partly that is due to the better control of class environment and parental involvement.
Is it the fact that they are sex segregated or that they are typically private, and in most cases parochial schools? Students of these schools typically come from a more well to do social status and have parents who place a larger degree of importance on education.
One can have the best buildings, books, technologies, and programs and still come out with a poor product if the learning environment is not conducive to learning. Distractions of disruptive students combined with , and largely caused by the gender curiosities cause less then the best learning environment.
Can you support that? Or is it a theory?
Today the fear of litigation and the intersession of government into the education system has caused the class room teachers to have lost control of the learning environment. The dabbling of government has further put stresses on the teachers and administrations in public schools. Mentors on all levels have been stripped of the respect from parents and students.
I am not sure how much is due to fear of litigation, but I would agree with the result.
The government and society has called our youth our best product, but do not show or give respect to those given the task of producing that best product. Duh!!

Can you show evidence that sex segregated schools do better for the kids for the reason of segregation? I can assure you that it does not stop curiosity. I worked for a year at an all girls high school. The girls talked about boys just as much, if not more, than their coed school students.

Schools
All I know is that when I was a tad, I went to a Catholic school. Boys on one side of the room, girls on the other. If you got out of line, BAM!, you got a ruler hitting you in the side of the head. The nuns didn't take no gruff.

The problem today is not only in the schools but also with parent not being parents.

If you think that students actually hit on teachers you are way out of touch with what really happens in a classroom. The problem is not the teachers, the school systems, or the classroom makeup, it is the parents. Period. The biggest problem with our education system today is a lack of respect which teachers cannot teach, ever.

Separation of sexes would also help kids focus on their studies and not each other and it's documented that as females enter middle school, they "dumb down" to the males.

Lady you are so right. I have read a study that stated women mature mentally on average five yrs faster than men do.

That's not always true. I go to a public high school and in all the classes with above average or gifted kids contain more males than females.

As a current high school student (as I’m sure you could probably tell from all my other posts) I would be furious if schools became segregated by genders. As pointed out, I don’t think that many people understand the social learning that goes on in schools. For example, when it comes to group projects it can be very helpful to have the other genders viewpoint. Also, imagine the problems that could pop up in the workplace if one had been segregated during the school years. Would one really know how to work cooperatively with the opposite gender? I also saw where one person said that on average girls dumb themselves down to the level of men. I don’t have any studies, but I find that to be a bunch of crap. Looking at my own experiences, I know some incredible smart guys along with some very intelligent women. If someone is dumbing themselves down to the level of others, what does that say about themselves? That they don’t value the intelligence they have been given? Either way, in my opinion segregating by gender would present many social problems that would care over to the workforce. If nothing else, it would be somewhat challenging to work with the opposite gender if one has never been exposed to it.
