If teachers were paid halfway decent wages for all the training they have to go through, perhaps they would be more motivated. It also doesn't help that the schools in poor neighborhoods are funded by taxes from that neighborhood, which, to say the least, make funds quite scarce.

Contrary to the belief of many people, tenured teachers can be fired...as a former Superintendent of Schools, I have done it a number of times.
i remember having a teacher who went off the deep end when his wife died and they had to can his ass cause he was just getting too creepy. he had tenure. i say fire them, but only after making them do a tedious amount of shit like they probably made their students do

Well, although the teacher is important in a classroom, there is something more important, the student. If a student does not want to learn, a teacher cannot succeed. Most of this is due to society, it's nothing new in America, our education system is shit. But more over, the drive that we allow fed to our kids is what...? Is it that they need to be suceessful in a job, that they need to be nice? Or perhaps all of that shit they see on TV that they want? Or maybe, just maybe, it could be all of the conveniences and comforts of todays modern world. Computers, TV's, the internet, cell phones, movies, and more.

You worry about teachers flooding your childs mind with garbage, what about MTV, I mean fuck, what happened there man. Anyone else able to remember when Music Television was still just that. Music videos? That is where it needed to be, it inspired creative thinking, originality, and good taste in music. Now pop culture media is flooded with reality TV shows, which are anything but. Who do you think your kid is going to believe more, their teacher, or the TV? I'm thinkin' TV.

Ah...you want an entertainer, not an educator.

Teachers are no different from others in the general work force; they get sick, go whacky, forget why they were hired in the first place, etc. So, they should be treated in the same manner as others in the work force--evaluated against the expectations for which they were hired.

The poor teachers don't deserve protection by their union, nor do they deserve reassignment, etc. If they can't/won't do the job, they have to be fired...same as for others in the general work force.

And they are fired...if the school district follows the procedure of documentation.
