Make sex ed an elective that parents must sign off on and I would agree to it.

that's not how education works, nathan. Teachers give the FACTS then move on. Also, wouldn't you still complain even if you didn't sign off on the class?
Think about it, out of a class of 25 kids, 12 kids don't go to the class. Do you think the other 13 kids aren't going to "spill the beans"? C'mon it's the 21st Century, kids can take some time to learn about their bodies and the consequence should they not use their heads when it comes to sex.

You misunderstood me, I meant that before the child could even take the class the parent had to agree to it. Surely you are not saying that a parent should have no say in his child's education. It doesn't matter if you agree with the parent or not, its not your decision.

I understood you perfectly, nat. You fail to see the realities of the situation though.
You child and my child are in the same class, for example. Before the class is offered you sign a form saying that your DO NOT want your child to go to the Sex Ed. class, I do the opposite. While my child goes to the class your child goes to the library. What's to stop my child from telling your child about the class? Don't you think that your child will have obvious questions that even the most pious or sexually uninterested person might ask?
So, even though you didn't want the child to take the class, they'll get it second hand (and maybe get some stuff wrong) from other kids who did take the class. You're idea of opting out of the class simply isn't feasible and will not work in a society where everyone wants to know a well kept secret.

The issue is do I want my child to attend that class, I don't. I want the parents to take that responsibility period.
Teach your little loud mouth twit to keep his mouth shut and we will get along.

Nat I'm going to school to be a teacher and you obviously don't know kids or forgot what it was like to be a kid.
Kid's talk. If they know something that others don't they will share that information. If your kid and a few others out of class of 25 opt out of the class they are NATURALLY going to be curious about what the other 15 kids learned in the Sex Ed. class. Jeez nat, just say the two words "Sex Ed." in a classroom of kids from the 6th grade on up and those kids will giggle, snicker and have their interest piqued.
So opt your kid out of the class and your kid will here it from my kid. Not because my kid is a blabber mouth, but because of human nature, your child will want to gain knowledge that is hidden from him. Don't believe me, try this experiment.
Take two kids, tell one he can't watch a show, say Jaws while the other can watch it. I'd bet my house that the kid that didn't watch it will grill the one that did just out of a basic human curiousity. Now imagine that basic curiousity ratcheted up over the subject of Sex that MOST kids are curious about anyway.
Again, you put yourself and your child in an untennable postition. Hence the reason that most kids just go to the class and move on.

Deadshot, it really doesn't bother you that parents aren't doing their jobs and you want the school to do it for them?

Rob, if other parents aren't going to do it, where are their kids to acquire the knowledge? You can not force a parent to teach anything, but it can be made a required class. At least the information is being presented, in a logical and controlled manner. Not learned under the bleachers, at who knows what cost.

I would really prefer that parents taught their children sex education, how to behave in class, not to scream and through a tantrum in a public restaurant, that their actions have consequences,. But lets face it, most can't be bothered.

teak, sadly I have to agree with you that most parents these days don't do their jobs but why punish the ones that do?
